Sacred Heart School is strong.
We have a dedicated, committed team of staff, teachers, parents, and volunteers! Also, Bishop Sample has created a task force that is studying ways to support and promote the 9 remaining Catholic schools in the U.P. They are looking to implement new programs to maintain academic excellence and secure financial stability that will not only keep Catholic school education alive, but help it to thrive.
Teachers of Sacred Heart School are Michigan state certified like the public school teachers.
Our teachers’ hold a current Michigan teaching certificate. In fact, our staff consists of professionals, which include the principal, seven teachers, one aide, librarian, secretary, and a custodian. The school was formerly run by the Sisters of St. Joseph, but due to the decrease in religious vocations they have not been at the school since the winter of 2001.
We make tuition affordable to you.
There is tuition assistance available to qualified families through scholarships and sponsorships. To accommodate you, the school has three payment options. Pay one lump sum, two payments, or make ten monthly payments, which can be automatically withdrawn. No child will be turned away because of inability to pay.
The Endowment Fund helps our school.
The Endowment Fund was established in 1996 to provide perpetual financial support to the school. Yearly payments come from the interest earned by the fund. The fund contributes about 25% of the school’s revenue budget each year. Through growth of principal and additional gifts the fund continues to grow.
Parents can volunteer at the school and participate in the fundraisers.
Students of active parents get better grades. Involved parents are needed in any school, especially for things like recess duty. Fundraisers are for families to play a part in supporting the child’s’ education. Our most popular fundraisers are the Bike-A-Thon, the Ed Clements Memorial Spaghetti Dinner, and the World’s Finest Chocolate Sale.
We prepare your Catholic child for their sacraments.
A solid foundation of Christian moral values is instilled through weekly participation in Mass, daily prayer, and grade appropriate religious education. While all aspects of sacramental preparation are taught here at the school, there are still Church events both Sacred Heart School and Public School students participate in together.
All faiths are welcome at Sacred Heart.
While the school must maintain its Catholic identity, all faiths are welcome to be a part of our Christ-centered atmosphere.
Students are required to wear uniforms.
Students are required to wear uniforms, which consist of a black or khaki bottom and red top, only on mass day and other special events. However, appropriate attire is always highly encouraged.
Sports, music, and arts.
Our students participate in the same community elementary sports programs as the public school students. The children attend P.E. and band classes at the public school. We also have our own P.E., art, music, and bell choir taught at Sacred Heart School along with preparation for Christmas and spring concerts.
